Quick fixes for the most common issues.
Login and Account
I cannot log in
Check your spam folder for the magic link or code. Links expire after 10 minutes, so request a fresh one if needed. Make sure you are using the same email address you signed up with. See the Account and Login page for more detail.
The Mirror
The conversation is stuck or not responding
Refresh the page. If the conversation still does not respond, close the tab and reopen Career Threader. Your progress up to the last completed message is saved. If the problem persists, try a different browser or clear your browser cache.
My Position Score seems wrong
Your Position Score reflects what you shared in the intake and the Mirror conversation. Short or vague answers produce a less precise score. If it does not feel right, rerun The Mirror with more specific, concrete responses about what you actually do day to day. The score also recalibrates as your sector data refreshes.
Document upload is not working
Career Threader accepts PDF, DOCX, and plain text files. Check that your file is under 10MB and in one of these formats. If the upload still fails, try a different browser. Safari on iOS can occasionally block file uploads in web apps.
The Map
The Map says I need to complete The Mirror first
The Map requires Mirror data to generate its analysis. Go back to The Mirror, complete the five-step intake and conversation, and wait for your Position Score. Once The Mirror is complete, The Map will load your data automatically.
Branch generation is taking a long time or failed
Each branch preview is generated in real time by the AI. It typically takes 10-15 seconds. If it stalls for more than 30 seconds, refresh the page. Your locked direction (if any) is saved, but explored-but-not-locked branches are session-only and will need to be re-explored.
I locked the wrong direction
Rerun The Map and pick a different branch. The Thread and Interview will detect that the direction has changed and prompt you to regenerate so the cascade stays consistent.
The sector analysis seems generic
The Map builds its sector analysis from your Mirror data. If you gave a broad sector description (such as "technology" rather than "B2B SaaS product management"), the analysis will be broader. Rerun The Mirror with a more specific sector and role description for sharper results.
The Thread
The narrative feels thin or generic
The Thread is strongest when both The Mirror and The Map are complete. If you skipped The Map or gave brief Mirror responses, The Thread has less material to work with. Complete the upstream tools in sequence for the richest narrative.
The DOCX dossier export is not working
The export button generates a Word document combining the Mirror, Map, and Thread output. If it fails, try refreshing the page and clicking the export button again. If the issue persists, try a different browser. The export works best in Chrome and Firefox.
The Interview
The briefing feels generic
The Interview is strongest with the full cascade complete and a CV uploaded. If you arrived at The Interview without having done The Mirror, Map, and Thread, or with a very brief target role description, the output will be more generic. Paste the full job description for the sharpest result, and complete the upstream tools if you want a briefing grounded in your whole career.
I redid The Mirror and my Interview briefing is showing a stale warning
This is expected. Your briefing was generated against the earlier Mirror data. The Interview detects when upstream has changed and prompts you to regenerate. Click Start fresh to produce a briefing against the new upstream, or cancel to keep the existing briefing.
Practice Mode lost my answers
Practice Mode is session-only by design. Answers and feedback are not saved to your project. If you close the tab or refresh the page, you will start fresh next time. The briefing itself is saved. Only the practice conversation is ephemeral.
General
I cannot access the tools
Career Threader requires a Personal, Business, or Custom plan. If you have purchased access and still cannot open the tools, sign out and sign back in to refresh your session. If the issue continues, contact hello@careerthreader.com with your email address.
My results have disappeared
Your career data is stored in your account and synced across devices. If your results are missing after signing in, try signing out and back in to trigger a fresh sync. If they are still missing, contact hello@careerthreader.com with the details.
Pages are not advancing or dot indicators are stuck
The tools use page-based navigation. Content advances via scroll or click prompts, not traditional page scrolling. If dot indicators are not updating, try scrolling down on the current page or clicking the advance prompt. If stuck, refresh the page.
